While most of the city's population waits in line for gas, food, or shuttle buses, there's another group of people congregating outside the Apple store on Fifth Avenue. The new iPad Mini debuts today, and the Wall Street Journal reports that this morning, "hundreds of people" were queued up.
One downtown resident explained that his reason for standing in line is actually because of Hurricane Sandy. "I'm down by Union Square, and there's no electricity, It's just very hard to sleep, so I figured I'd get up early and get my new iPad rather than lie in bed and stare at the ceiling."
Yesterday, Mashable met Luis Lorenzo, the one and only person who bothered to line up on Thursday morning. His commute from East New York to Fifth Avenue took two hours, and he says a little over half of that was spent waiting for the F train. The store was supposed to open at 8am, but apparently the launch was pushed back until 10am, adding another two hours to Lorenzo's wait time.
