Fashion's Night Out is this Thursday, and the list of participating stores goes on and on. To help you decide your itinerary, we've pulled together a series of Top Ten countdowns. We've already looked at the best musical performances, food, beauty events, and gimmicks; now, let's talk about the best pop-up shops.
This year, there are so many pop-up shops that we're giving them a countdown of their very own. Target is obviously the major contender here, but a host of big brands—Ford, Nordstrom, Alice + Olivia—present some promising alternatives.
10. Dalaga
At their Greenpoint location, Dalaga inaugurates a week-long pop-up shop featuring clothes, accessories, and art by New York-based illustrator Leah Goren. Leah will be on hand to man a DIY friendship bracelet bar, so start scavenging your crafts box for threads, beads, and charms. 150 Franklin Street, 6pm.
9. Dusty Rose Vintage
While you're in Greenpoint, stop by this indie market from vintage hubs Dusty Rose and Market Publique. Seven local shops will also be there, among them Clyde's Rebirth, which is advertising their merchandise with a blind item: "Eco-friendly jewelry comprised of pre-loved materials, handcrafted by everyone's favorite ginger tressed cat lady. One [wo]man's trash is another [wo]man's treasure." So, um, you might be able to shop Grace Coddington's cast-offs while you're there. 233 Norman Avenue, Greenpoint, 6pm.
8. Ford
No, not Tom. This time it's all about the car giant, which is celebrating its 2013 Ford Fusion hybrid with a shop on Gansevoort Plaza selling products by eco-designers selected by Vogue Fashion Director Tonne Goodman. Who's betting poster boys Ryan Seacrest and Joel McHale will be in attendance? Gansevoort Plaza at Gansevoort Street and Ninth Avenue, 6pm.
7. United Colors of Benetton
FNO marks the launch of the brand's gallery and pop-up compound, The Art of Knit, which runs through the end of September in a converted garage in Soho. Inside, you'll find knitwear in all the colors of the rainbow as well as several large displays of erotic yarn art. Yes, we said "erotic yarn art." 135 Crosby Street, 6pm.
6. Wolverine
Get a free shoe shine and a beer at this pop-up Company Store, where you'll find brands like Samantha Pleet, Filson, and Tellason, as well as jewelry from The Shiny Squirrel and vintage from Brooklyn Dry Goods. Don't worry if you can't make it, though: The pop-up lasts through February. 242 Elizabeth Street, 6pm.
5. GQ and Nordstrom at Treasure & Bond
The magazine teams up with the Seattle-based retailer for the launch of a two-week long pop-up featuring, like, everybody. We're talking Warby Parker, Other Music, Stumptown Coffee, Freemans Sporting Club—the list goes on and on. Technically it's for guys, but ladies like music and coffee too, you know? 9:30pm, 350 West Broadway.
4. Alice & Olivia
The girlie label is hosting a sleepover-themed pop-up on the roof of STK Meatpacking. Wear your best pajama-chic ensemble to dance to '80s music, watch classic movies, get makeovers, and have your aura and palms read. There's even a live pillow fight, which sounds kind of dangerous, what with this taking place on a roof and all. 26 Little W. 12th Street, 6pm.
3. Cheap Monday at Oak
The cult favorite denim brand takes up residency at Oak with a launch party DJ'd by someone named Pjotr from Stockholm. There will also be free custom Cheap Monday t-shirts from graffiti artist Smurfo, not to mention tons of free beer. Oak assures us: "We plan on not running out." 28 Bond Street, 7pm.
2. Woolite Washed
Even laundry detergent companies want in on all the Fashion Week fun. This temporary boutique features limited-edition apparel and accessories from a range of cool labels, including Dannijo, Timo Weiland, and LNA. What does this have to do with Woolite? Well, some of the products come pre-washed. Cat Deeley and celeb style pro Jacqui Stafford will host, and all proceeds benefit Save the Children. 372 West Broadway, 7pm.
1. Target
Up atop the Highline Stages, guests get early access to Target's highly-anticipated collaborations with Kirna Zabête, Odin, The Curiosity Shoppe, and Patch NYC. The collections, known as The Shops at Target, don't reach stores until September 9th, so it's safe to assume that this will be a madhouse. Get. There. Early. We cannot stress this enough. 441 West 14th Street, 6pm.
