Over the weekend, Daryl Kerrigan sent out an email to her customers, alerting them that she'll be closing her store at 21 Bond Street, which she's occupied since 1997, by the end of March. Though the email didn't say much, it did explain that the brand is "just taking a break from retail for the time being," and that the Daryl K collections will still be available on the brand's website and at trunk shows, select stores, and through a "concierge service." So that seemed like that, but today Kerrigan had a few more things to add.
According to an article in WWD, the store was just "taking up too much of her time and taking her away from designing." Though she's bummed to leave, she said that the Bond Street location wasn't so great in terms of foot traffic, and that the space was "underutilized for retail." So while that one didn't work out, Kerrigan let on that there's an expansion plan in the works, but was keeping mum about the details.
One thing she wasn't keeping mum about, though, was Barneys: "Barneys New York was always my store, but since [its] huge shake-up, I've felt that the new [executive team] doesn't understand its amazing customers." A quick search reveals no Daryl K items for sale on the Barneys website.
In other news, the current Daryl K fall 2012 collection is currently marked down to 70% off, so head over before March 30th to capitalize on the discounts. Kerrigan's email to her customers also explained that anyone who pre-ordered merchandise from the spring 2012 collection will have it mailed to them directly.
