Yesterday, J.Crew opened its second Tribeca boutique for men. While the Liquor Store, which opened in 2008, carries all manner of menswear, the brand-new Ludlow Shop focuses specifically on suits. We're told Tribeca had such a high demand for suiting that the company needed to expand into a new space.
In addition to J.Crew's signature Ludlow suits, the store carries Thomas Mason for J.Crew shirting and Alden for J.Crew shoes as well as other third-party venders like Drakes pocket squares and Corgi dress socks. Amenities include tailoring, monogramming, door-to-door courier service, and advice from suiting experts, so it's sort of like every shopper gets to be Lord Grantham with his own personal Bates.
J.Crew's men's shops are always obsessed with atmosphere, so it's no surprise that the loft-like space is carefully styled. Midcentury furniture (including a vintage Mies van der Rohe sofa) shares the space with steel industrial fixtures and limited-edition art from the likes of Jasper Johns, Alberto Giacometti, and Louise Nevelson. Reports Tribeca Citizen, "Certain shoppers may be as taken with the decor (vinyl on the hi-fi, vintage art books, British music magazines, a Schoolhouse Electric IBM clock—in other words, details that hearken back to an era when men wore suits) as with the merchandise itself."
