The Daphne Guinness exhibit at The Museum at FIT might be getting some heat from human rights groups, but that didn't stop the museum from debuting another designer-filled exhibit; yesterday, FIT launched Part One of The Great Designers showcase. The museum's Valerie Steele, Patricia Mears, and Fred Dennis put together a list of the 100 most important designers, along with their most important pieces—50 of them are currently on display for the first round, and another 50 will be debuting in Part Two.
WWD notes that splitting the exhibit in two was a good strategy: "By making its new exhibition, 'The Great Designers,' a two-part deal, the Museum at FIT will cover the 20th and 21st centuries and will no doubt spare a few egos in the process." Part One includes an impressive roster of pieces from Alexander McQueen, Thierry Mugler, Givenchy, and Rick Owens, Balenciaga, Chanel, Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh, and more. The first half runs through May 8th, and the second half will pick up on May 23rd.
