This past Sunday, resale shop Re/Dress shuttered in Boerum Hill. The store, which specialized in vintage for plus-sized shoppers, had built a cult following in the three years since it opened. But as owner Deb Malkin explains on the website, the expenses always outweighed the income. Still, she's happy with what the store achieved:
Regardless of how long Re/Dress NYC has been open, I am proud of the successes that we have had changing the landscape of plus size fashion, indie style, shopping and body liberation. We've helped create a fun, friendly and supportive shopping environment where dignity, kindness and ferocity of style are the operating principles.Malkin writes that the closing is partly personal, too: She's moving to the Bay Area in 2012. As for the "Re/Dress Shopgrrls," as they're known, they've written a really sweet goodbye note that's also published on the site.
