Last night, Marimekko celebrated the launch of its Manhattan flagship, which is now open in the Flatiron District. Waitresses and party-goers alike were wearing the Finnish brand's cheerful, pop-art patterns, making this the only event we've ever been to where the guests and the servers both matched the decor. In addition to providing Scandinavian hors d'oeuvres, Marimekko kept the crowd entertained with a dance performance—another thing we've never seen at a store party before.
The flagship is large and colorful, fully living up to the promise of the scaffolding it's been hiding under for all these months. Japanese architectural firm IMA designed the airy space in conjunction with the Marimekko team, making sure it was closely conceptually aligned with the new Helsinki flagship. The space carries the full range of Marimekko products, including a wide variety of clothing and the Marimekko x Converse sneakers.
