It's possible the New York State Legislature decided on their own it was high time to legalize same-sex marriage, but we like to think our esteemed representatives in Albany were passing laptops around between sessions with Weddings Week pages open in multiple tabs and they decided everyone should be able to make their closest friends wear hideous dresses. Either way, it happened. So now we feel it is only right to bring you a post-Weddings Week update with a few places to have a gay wedding for free in 2011.
First up is the Trinity Lower East Side Lutheran Parish. The ECLA Lutheran Parish posted a flyer on their sign announcing that their pastor will perform LGBT weddings for free for the next year in celebration of marriage equality.
And then there's "New York City's largest pop-up chapel" at the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park on July 30. The Popup Chapel will provide the wedding, officiant, photographer, witnesses, and the cupcakes (wait, really?) for free—all you need to bring is yourselves and a marriage license. Now you have a month to spend your entire wedding budget on finding something to wear?ready, set, go!—Lauren Budorick
