Century 21 wants a part of the e-commerce market. The discount department store has announced to newsletter subscribers that it will soon be launching "exclusive online sales" offering 40% to 65% off designer merchandise. According to the company Facebook page, the first sales will be Yohji Yamamoto's Coming Soon line and McQ, both running from April 27th and 28th, plus Just Cavalli and Love Moschino, running April 27 through May 1. This early, it's hard to tell how the online sales will compare to other e-commerce sites—Gilt, Rue La La, ideeli, et al—but it's a lot easier to imagine how they'll compare with shopping at Century 21 in person. It's not a minority opinion that the Century 21 experience leaves something to be desired, but yesterday we received a particularly vivid email from a reader on the topic. It's Friday, and it's been a while since we've run a good reader rant, so let's turn to the inbox. Note that this is all by way of introducing a forward about the online sales.
OMG! NO STROLLER NAZIS!
Fucking (sorry) nasty entitled young women who bring their strollers to crowded stores and then get ANGRY AT YOU WHEN YOU WANT TO LOOK AT SOMETHING.
Maybe we should all bring strollers with fake children in them. And spikes on the wheels to keep the stroller Nazis from getting all the good stuff.
But will they have Rick Owens and everything else I want... or that just crap that I wish they should would just get rid of!
And when is Upper West Side opening? And will they have good designer stuff and will I have to get there at 7am...I'm sick of eBay and sample sales. I want to go to a real store again! That, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of passion that Century 21 inspires. By the way, when we asked if we could reprint it, she wrote back, "HAVE FUN WITH MY RANT... ITS ALL TRUE."
