Arguably the cutest member of the seven major sample sales happening this week, the United Bamboo sale going on today and tomorrow down on Centre Street delivers with excellent finds at cheap(er) prices. Since 100% of the proceeds will go towards tsunami relief efforts in Japan, it's easy to justify dropping in—especially when prices are slashed all the way down to 90% off. You have to be somewhere around a size four to fit into the bulk of the clothes, but hey—what's another couple bucks towards tailoring?
For starters, the accessories department—which includes a surplus amount of sample shoes—starts as low as $40. Medium size travel bags range from $80 to $120, an endless selection of berets from Ellen Christine Millinery and Patricia Underwood are priced at $60, and brown and black leather belts start at $50. If you have a need for them—if you don't, find one—cat clothes are all priced at $250; still expensive for a cat, yes, but adorable nonetheless.
Markdowns for ladies start considerably cheap, with jersey knit cardigans at $40 and skirts and denim for $50. As mentioned, the samples are samples, so brace yourself for an overload of size four blouses ($80 and $100 for most) and dresses (from around $50 to $150), but the pants and jackets, however, have a larger range of sizes. Black peacoats are going for $220, and a lightweight, beige X Initiative and United Bamboo collab coat is marked down to $40. There's also two solid racks of men's clothes, including seersucker jackets starting at $60 (with shorts to match!).
There's plenty of goodies waiting for you at the register, too: Grab a wallet for only $30, and pop in a (free!) United Bamboo Kitty McKitten drivers license. If you didn't spring for a sequined dress for your cat (what's wrong with you?), then at least pick up the best damn calendar, ever, for only ten bucks.—Tiffany Yannetta
