Looks like the New Year will be greeted by a big, empty space at the corner of 66th Street and Broadway, as the Barnes & Noble will officially close its doors this Sunday, January 2, 2011. This is sad for neighborhood supporters, but of course where there's a store closing, there is always a closing sale. My Upper West reports that contents of the store are marked 50% off and more. Better move fast for those discount Twilight books now though. We hear that UWS bargain hunters are already working on overdrive as merch is flying off the shelves. Now all eyes will be on the space for the reported Century 21 move in date. Stay tuned.
