Look out, Artists & Fleas: Next summer, the Brooklyn Flea will spend Saturdays in Fort Greene and Sundays in Williamsburg. And not only is the South Brooklyn market venturing into North Brooklyn, but according to Daily Intel, which broke the news yesterday, it's making its new home at The Edge, the huge new complex on the waterfront.
The plot of land, which sits between 6th and 7th Streets, is the projected future home of a third Edge tower, but until putting up a third building makes economic sense, the Edge developers are happy to rent it to the Flea. They've even promised to throw in some landscaping, since it's currently a mud hole. The space will accommodate the same number of vendors as the Fort Green location, while East River State Park next door ought to soak up some of the overflow of tired post-browsing families and hungover pupusa-eaters. Sure, the Edge couldn't be more different from the Flea's gorgeous, historically significant winter home at One Hanson, but logistically, everything about this paring seems like a win for both parties.
