Earlier today, we were treated to an official sneak peek at the preview of the much-anticipated Alexander Wang sale. A surprisingly small group of die-hard invitees lined up early this frigid morning for first dibs on major discounts of on Alexander Wang and T by Alexander Wang womenswear and accessories, plus T for men. Not to worry folks, merch will be replenished for the public sale tomorrow. Well, most of it anyway.
Bad news first though: There are no samples this time around. Considering our sample triumph (a $10 slashed sweater!) from last time, this news was just shy of heartbreaking. Also, compared to the truly sneak peek pics from yesterday, the bag situation is has become quite meager (possibly due to an employee sale that we're guessing took place yesterday).
All bags are indeed $350 and there just frankly aren't very many. What's out is it. The lone sand Rocco was quickly snatched up and we saw one brown Donna hobo, one Diego bucket bag, one brown Trudy and some pastel Brenda zips that were definitely left over from the last sale. We're not too confident those will even make it through today.
The shoe situation is a bit more promising. Like last time, the shoes (and the bags) are located at staffed tables. You tell the staffer which shoes you want to try and if it's a success, the shoes are placed in a shopping bag that awaits you at checkout. This time, all shoes are $220 (as compared to the summer shoe sale which started at $150.) We saw a smattering of Abbys and Eliza sandals, plus the Mirte lace sock boot (originally $925), some black and white oxford booties, and flat slip-on booties. The Addison platform mid-thigh boots (originally $725) were understandably the most popular.
The rest of the sale was all about Alexander Wang signature ready-to-wear and with dresses priced at $160, it was a no-brainer. For those looking for some sexy LBDs on major discount, this is your place. The racks are packed with slinky velvet, Grecian draping, glam sequins, that cute frock with the pocket square. and more. Knitwear, priced at $150 was also super popular. We saw lots of girls trying on the chunky cable knit cardies (in grey, black and camel), oversize cowl-neck pullovers, delicate tissue knits and more.
The $175 jackets are also a great deal as lots of them have leather trim, like the grey melange jean jacket with leather sleeves. The rest of the pricing: $125 for tops, $160 for pants, shorts and skirts, $300 for outerwear, and $450 for "special items", such as drool-worthy leather jackets and shorts, crushed velvet cocktail dresses, and pearl-beaded blazers.
Don't forget to look through the abundance of T by Alexander Wang bins and racks with clothing priced at $45 and accessories at just $30. The womenswear standouts were the double-breasted leather-lined pockets blazer (in black and grey and originally $175), plus matching leather-piped sweatpants and the zip-front dress (in camel, black and grey and originally $145). There are also four menswear racks and additional bins with sweaters (although those skewed small and extra small), zip-front jackets, striped slouchy sweatpant/shorts combos, and hoodies.
There is a completely open communal dressing area and also a few mirrors scattered throughout. For the uninitiated, there are a bunch of male security guards (who probably happily signed up to work this event) peppered throughout the sale, so dress appropriately. There is a bag and coat check at the door and cash and credit are accepted. Signs throughout the sale promise new merchandise everyday and additional sizes in the back. Let's all hope for a holiday miracle of a secret stash of handbags, too.
