In years past, WIRED Magazine has taken on neighborhoods like Chelsea and the Meatpacking District with their holiday pop-up shops, stores where there's actually nothing to buy but plenty with which to play. For 2010, they continue heading downtown with a pop-up in the old Tower Records space on Broadway at East 4th Street. According to NewYorkology the opening date will be a week from now, on November 19, no doubt with some sort of party.
With a location right there on Broadway, you can expect the shop to stay packed with students, tourists and locals all contemplating whether or not they'd rather put the latest Tablet PC or a T-shirt that plays Rockband on their Christmas List.
Will the $16,000 wood-panelled computer return? There's already some random gadgets for sale at WIRED's online store, but no news of what demo items the actual store will be showing off. As before, the WIRED pop-up will be closed on Monday, Tuesdays and for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, until it shuts down permanently on December 26.
