Earlier today, we saw signs of life over at the now-closed Peter's restaurant on Columbus Avenue. While the Rag & Bone half of the closed restaurant was still a ghost town, the plywood-covered other half boasted an open door and a group of busy workers carting out wood pieces and other discards. We risked seriously annoying one of the workers to uncover the identity of the future tenant and after some hardcore questioning and breadcrumb clues ("it's some French store", um.."there's one in Soho, on Spring Street"...oh, oh!..."cotton something"...) the winner is Comptoirs des Cotonniers. Nice!
With its Burberry Brit, incoming Rag & Bone, Wink, Intermix, Kiehl's, MAC, Fresh and the always-controversial Uggs, this stretch of Columbus is looking—dare we say—downright Soho-esque. While there is also a Comptoirs des Cotonniers in the works on Bleecker Street, according to our worker informant, this one is slated to open "toward the end of November". So now it's time to take bets on which shop will grace the UWS first: Rag & Bone or Comptoirs des Cotonniers?
