Barneys Co-op opened in Cobble Hill yesterday with a window display starring a shark made out of denim, but store owners who share Atlantic Avenue with the chain don't hear the Jaws music cuing up. A salesperson at "the clothing store Eva Gartner" (we think they mean Eva Gentry) told The Brooklyn Paper that Barneys is "bringing a level of fashion and art to the neighborhood that a lot of people in Brooklyn can appreciate." And the head of the Atlantic Avenue Betterment Association said that smaller retailers along the street hope that traffic from Barneys will increase their own sales. As for the shark, it's not a metaphor so much as an art reference: Simon Doonan called it "our homage to Damien Hirst."
