The legendary Los Angeles consignment shop and frenzy-inducing pop-up, formerly known as Decadestwo, is gracing Soho with its presence again. But this time with its new name: Decadestwo.1 (two-point-one, cute, right?). Very post-millenially appropriate, if we do say so. You may have heard that they launched an online shop too, but lucky us, we get them (and their ridonkulous collection of designer shoes) in person.
We had a chance to check out the VIP sale before the pop-up opens to the public tomorrow and we have much to report. First off, owner Christos Garkinos promises this time there are twice as many shoes as last time around. Second, it's always fun to see how the goods are categorized and artfully displayed—it's different at every pop-up. This time around there's an exotic skin table with loads of drool-worthy shoes and beautiful bags located in the back. There is also a bounty of 55 Chanel pieces (mostly bags and suits) acquired just yesterday from a very enviable lady on the Upper East Side, plus a Prada shoe collection adorably displayed in a Prada pigskin suitcase (for sale, also).
Let's get to it then, starting with the shoes. The usual suspects are in the house: Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Prada, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Gucci, you name it. Christos pointed out Prada starts at $150. Here's a sampling of what else we saw: brown croc Bottega Veneta wedges ($390), Louis Vuitton metallic pink booties (worn only once for $390) Nicholas Kirkwood fuschia suede and red python embellished cone-heels ($390) and Givenchy cream python peep-toe lace-up wedges ($220).
On the Loubie front, we saw classic patent black pointy-toe stilettos ($340), black studded booties ($550), killer black suede pleated peep-toe platforms ($660) and a plus pair of Misfit platforms ($710 and these puppies are $1450 in the stores). Christos is also introducing a selection of never been worn Camilla Skovaard heels, some from the current ziz-zag rubber soled season—like these amazing tassled platform mules. The sizes range from 36.5 to 41 and they weren't tagged when we were there, but the prices hover around $200.
Now, onto the bags. At the exotic skins (in a non-dirty way, thank you) table, we admired a Michael Kors brown python shoulder bag ($660) and wistfully picked up a Nancy Gonzalez studded croc tote (with an aspirational price of $2100). Scattered throughout the store, we also saw: an immaculate condition white Louis Vuitton stud clasp bag ($1350), a small yellow ruffled YSL shoulder bag ($550) and a large black Chlöe carryall ($1250).
Within that 55-piece treasure trove of Chanel, we looked through a medium size front-flap quilted black leather bag ($2200), a brown quilted one with a short strap ($1950) and the large patent tote with chain shoulder strap ($1400). There were only a few pairs of shoes—the black patent booties ($500) were nice and in case you're wondering, a suit was $1300.
This pop-up also offers the biggest selection of fall and winter coats so far. Since we're talking designer labels, even on consignment, they're not cheap. A Proenza Schouler leather trim coat is $995 and a luxurious cream cashmere double-breasted YSL coat is $1600, for instance. However, if you really take a look, there were some "deals" like a lovely lilac Viktor & Rolf short jacket for $390 and a label-less, but super-plush shearling for $340. (In comparison a Prada shearling coat is $1100).
Just so we're comprehensive, on the apparel racks, you'll find items like a kelly-green Marc Jacobs strapless cocktail dress for $450, a velvet Alexander Wang LBD for $390, a See by Chlöe structured origami puff sleeve LBD for $340 and an Oscar de la Renta tulle and gold beaded dress for $2400. We also hunted down a couple Lanvin items: a jewel embellished brocade jacket for $1300 and for rough edged, jewel lined dress for $945.
Of course the shoes are the main attraction. They will be replenished each day to finally culminate in the monster shoe sale at noon on Sunday when hundreds of designer shoes will be on hand all for $150 and under a pair. Christos suggests clearing your calendar now—"Cancel all brunch activities on Sunday! I'm warning all the restauranteurs in Soho that there will be a dip in sales around lunchtime." And of course watch out for the line, which will wind around the block.
