We thought the mayhem in the shoe sale was intense, but that was nothing compared to the womenswear floor at the Barneys Warehouse Sale. It was an absolute mess of humanity: A baby, sharp elbows, unkempt hair—which is gross when it brushes your bare arm, by the way—and tentacle-like hanger hooks. There may be some doubters out there, but these ladies apparently didn't get that memo.
The organizers have moved the ready-to-rear up front next to the shoes and the designer racks are in the back. Also, most of the RTW is mixed in the racks and organized by type, but there are a few selected labels that have their own designated racks along the middle aisle: Marc Jacobs, Doo Ri's Under.Ligne, Clu, Wayne, Shipley & Halmos, Rag & Bone and Richard Chai (although some of their pieces are also mixed into the riff-raff RTW racks). This new arrangement only seems to have invigorated the already hopped-up shoppers.
A sampling of the RTW dress racks turned up a cream Clu tank ($99 from $249), a black wrap-front Shipley & Halmos jersey ($139 from $470), a two-toned grey paint splatter Vena Cava ($109 from $275), an ombré wrap DVF dress ($189 from $249), the grey sweatshirt Alexander Wang dress with football shoulders ($249 from $625), a delicate knit Rogan sweater tank ($79 from $228), and a black zip front Generra v-neck ($115 from $225).
RTW tops yielded a yellow striped Rag & Bone cardie ($149 from $290), a Love Sam pleated painter shirt (lots in blue, cream and grey for $69 from $135), Marc by Marc Jacobs dot texture sleeveless blouse (in black or white for $109 from $178), a really cute Current/Elliot racer back denim vest ($79 from $224), and Clu mesh cardies ($119 from $298) and light-weight heather tanks with ruffle detail ($49 from $115). Swimming in the sea of black pants and khakis in the bottoms, we found Marc by Marc Jacobs light-weight black pants ($89 from $169), L'Agence suede black skinny pants ($519), a Phillip Lim molasses-hued sequin mini ($239 from $595) and a black suede fringed Joie skirt ($159 from $398).
Also look out for a relatively undisturbed outerwear rack toward the back right where you'll find Alexander Wang inside-out trenches ($359 from $895) and khaki sleeveless dusters ($319 from $795), plus Phillip Lim white python embossed trenches ($449 from $795). Other outerwear found on the racks: A Loomstate zip-front light weight jacket ($79 from $190), a Rag & Bone distressed grey leather moto-jacket ($949 from $1995), and an army green field jacket ($315 from $695) and Marc Jacobs wool lavender dotted jackets ($379 from $698) and leopard trenches ($299 from $498).
Denim is all an extra 25% off (we've done the math for you in the following prices) and after digging through the piles, we found J Brand dark skinnies ($51.75 from $202), Joe's medium wash boot-cuts ($44.25) and black ankle zip jeggings ($21.75 from $88), Rag & Bone tuxedo cut black jeans ($74.25 from $350), R13 distressed ones ($74.25 from $275), Tsubi black moto cross with ankle zip ($66.75 from $180), Genetic ankle zip skinnies ($51.75 from $188) and Shane distressed tie dye jeans ($51.75 from $208).
Finally, on to the designer section, where you'll find the likes of: Ann Demeulemeester , Alaia, Altuzurra (an olive green jersey dress with ruffle detail for $399), Balenciaga (a silk white and blue dot print summery frock for $1099 from $2745), Balmain, Christopher Kane, Boudicca, Givenchy, Giambattista Valli, Dries Van Noten, Doo Ri, Fendi, Pucci, Lanvin (a sequin and paillette embellished t-shirt dress for $599 from $1490), Rick Owens ($759 for a white leather vest with flowy back), Rodarte, The Row ($649 for a black leather pencil skirt and $139 for a peach tank), Stella McCartney, Thakoon, Zac Posen and more. Since the designer racks have been relegated to the back, the aisles are super narrow. Let's just say it's an effort.
Per usual, there is a fitting area that's pretty open and packed beyond words. If you plan on heading there this afternoon, hone your eagle eyes and ready your fight face.
