That temporary Toys "R" Us in downtown Brooklyn was just the beginning of a full-scale invasion. Brownstoner reports four Brooklyn pop-ups in total: One on Jay Street, one on Flatbush, one on 5th Avenue in Park Slope, and one on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint. The latter took over the space where the Wizard used to be, and according to a tipster, it's in rough shape. He writes:
What's weird is that they left the place a bit of a mess and Toys "R" Us doesn't seem to care, so there are ceiling tiles missing and some of the walls are all messed up. If the employees weren't all wearing official looking employee shirts it would look like a "fell off the truck" store. We hear nearby Greenpoint store owners aren't particularly happy about their commitment-phobic new neighbor, which will open just in time to (as our tipster put it) "suck money out of the community, put none back in, make business hard for the actual all-the-time toy store just down the avenue and then ship out." Don't be surprised if there's talk of a boycott down the line.
