Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Local and national audiences are to websites what curly and straight hair are to the ladies: If you've got one, you almost definitely wish you had the other. OK, we made that up, but it does explain why Refinery29 went local the same day we launched Racked National. It also explains the birth of Gilt City, a new site from the people who have already eaten up your entire savings with Gilt, Gilt Fuse, Gilt Men, and Jetsetter.
Gilt City is a New York-centric site (for now) offering deals like 50% off lunch at Rouge Tomate or specials at midtown's Vartali Salon. (They're also giving subscribers a deal at 16 Handles, which has to make this the first time the luxury-based business has ever promoted a discount on frozen yogurt.) Right now, you have to request access to join, though pre-existing Gilt accounts work just fine. And while the site currently only represents NYC deals, it's safe to say it will expand to other cities soon. After all, Gilt has never been known to dawdle in its quest for world domination.
