It's almost as if this post is pointless because once you finish reading it, the Cynthia Steffe sale will probably be completely ravaged and barren, with the exception of a few pairs of black work pants. We arrived maybe two minutes after the official 10am opening to complete insanity. We must have missed the memo on some secret earlier start time because the room was packed with at least 50 women hysterically grabbing at items of clothing.
Like a deer caught in headlights, we didn't even know where to begin. The central point of the mayhem was the $30 dress (and depleted romper) section. Coats and leather for $50: Gone. Shoes for $20: Don't bother, they're all worn runway samples in 39 and 40. Tops and sweaters for $20: Going and probably gone. The only largely unmolested racks were the pants, skirts and bottoms for $20. The advertised $5 items were long gone.
Shoppers were hoarding piles upon piles of items like there was no tomorrow and you could barely walk two feet without getting your purse strap or limb caught on someone's hanger hook. Pleasant and friendly staffers stood by and observed with a mixture of horror and amusement. If you're a glutton for punishment and want to drop by, here are the details: You will first bring your items to a "bagging table" in the main showroom, then move to a payment station near the entrance. Cash and credit are accepted. There are no fitting areas and they won't be restocking.
