Today Bowery Boogie pays homage to a LES neighborhood great, Pablo Vargas, the owner of Stanton Tailor Shop, in the first of a two-part series. A well-known figure in the ever changing nabe, Pablo has been a mainstay since opening the shop back in the eighties. Pablo's talents are a pretty much famous throughout the neighborhood (all the fancy vintage boutiques in the area have always sent their customers to Pablo) and the city: expert tailoring, wallet friendly prices and what's not really common these days, super friendly service.

We've been bringing our tailoring to Pablo for almost a decade now. He's made vintage dresses look like new, removed offending pleats from pants, and best of all, he once miraculously enlarged a silk Vera Wang sample evening gown. When you head to Stanton, especially on a weekend, you have to be ready to wait in the small shop with other faithful customers, since Pablo is the only one who handles the fittings. It's sort of a like a lifestyle— bring some reading material, tap around on your iPhone, you might even run into friends there. When we dropped in Pablo earlier this week (vintage dress from the Zachary's Smile sale), he was gearing up for the busy summer rush ("wedding season" sigh). But hey, the crowds can only be a testament to Pablo's fantastic work.
