People, the Chelsea Market Anthropologie has an opening date: Friday, April 16th. Even more exciting: The store, which is rumored to focus on home, now contains actual furniture, including at least one striking cobalt blue chandelier.
There's something about seed pearls and ribbon trim and ethnically-ambiguous folk art that tends to short-circuit the skepticism center in our brains, but the Shophound, who is apparently much less vulnerable, pointed out recently that Anthro is a departure for Chelsea Market, where the businesses are usually local and independently-owned. Since Anthropologie shares the market's shabby-chic aesthetic, it can sort of sneak in undetected—it's not like we're talking about Forever 21 here—but it's still a chain. Then again, there's already a Hale & Hearty Soups in there, so hopefully the opening in two weeks won't have much effect on the character of the place.
