RackedWire: The Gilt Backlash Begins; Journelle Offers Facebook Discounts

THE INTERNET—Three words that should roil the blood of any online sample shopper: "Gilt Groupe Lies." So begins a very angry blog post by someone who took the time to fact-check the price of a cashmere scarf marked down nearly 60% off (according to Gilt) from a retail price of $300. What she found: The same scarf, in the same size, retailing for $195 at Neiman Marcus. This isn't necessarily Gilt's fault, since they probably got the retail price from Sofia Cashmere, the company that makes the scarf. But the post, combined with this comment yesterday, makes us wonder if a backlash is brewing. [The Vie Society; Racked Comments]

FACEBOOK—Union Square lingerie shop Journelle has a newish Facebook promotion going. Share a $15 gift card with your friends, and you get $15 off yourself. If they actually use the cards, you get $50 in credit, and another $35 for every three friends you invite. Normally we frown on this kind of Facebook spamming, but normally this kind of Facebook spamming doesn't involve giving people discounts on expensive lingerie. [Facebook]
