The Creatures of Comfort sample sale kicked off to a long line at 3pm this afternoon. We were surprised how quiet the sale was inside, but happy that the space was well lit, well staffed, and somewhat organized compared to pervious seasons. While most discounts were around 50% off, we did spot a lot of samples from their namesake collection for even cheaper than the promised 70% off.
The dynamic shoe section was well priced, with Isabel Marant August patent loafers marked down to $200, and Robert Clergerie lace-up creepers for $178.
Summer shorts are in abundance with Acne denim patchwork shorts for $50 and a dressier pink pair for $108. We spotted a Zero + Maria Cornejo asymmetrical skirt made of white linen for only $170. Isabel Marant jeans are going for $140, and her thin cashmere sweaters are $200 and basic long sleeves tees are $71.
A huge selection of Creatures of Comfort includes tiered linen strappy dresses, blue and white striped utilitarian shirts, and flat-front pants, some of which were samples priced from $60-$125. Most small sizes in the Creatures of Comfort styles were gone.
On the floor we spotted a box of swimsuits from different designers and tons of striped tees for $25 and dresses for $35, both by Creatures of Comfort. We also noticed a few VPL bras thrown in the mix for just $27-$50. At the front of the sale we stumbled upon a nice surprise: a rack of vintage Vivienne Westwood, Norma Kamali and other designer duds for prices lower than the majority of the sale—almost everything on the rack was under $100.
We saw a couple little black dresses from Nomia and VPL, both under $200. There are special pieces from Rachel Comey, including a patchwork midi straight skirt and a blue and white spring blazer for $127. The longer we stayed, the more selection emerged from the piles of clothes that were tried on and discarded by shoppers.
If you're into buying off-season styles, the cashmere sweaters from brands like Patrik Ervell and Creatures of Comfort are going for under $200, and coats are well-priced, including an A.P.C. navy spring coat for $147.
With no dressing room and only one large mirror, trying things on is a challenge. The men standing around waiting for their girlfriends didn't help the situation, but they tried to stay in their section, pretending to look through the small selection of men's clothing and shoes.
No word on whether prices will be reduced, but we saw a lot of shoppers leaving empty handed and overheard their disappointment with the sale, so hopefully things will be discounted further. The sale runs through Saturday.
