We got an early look at the Diane Von Furstenburg sample sale this morning, and were thrilled to find an impressive spread of women's ready-to-wear and accessories for up to 75% off. Prices start at just $5 for tights and max out at a reasonable $250 for heavy-duty winter coats. A word to the wise: be prepared to wait in line (don't skimp on the SPF!) because when we left at 9:15am, nearly 60 people were already lined up outside.
Sizes range from 0-14, and there's a pretty equal mix of items available in each size category. The sale is evenly split between casual clothes and special-occasion garments. Dresses make up a lot of the merchandise, so expect to find everything from cotton day dresses for $100 to sequined gowns for $150.
Some of our favorite finds include drop-waist chiffon summer dresses for $100, leather-detailed shifts for $150, and airy printed caftans for $100. You'll also find the label's iconic wrap dresses in various colors and prints for $100 each.
Many of the tops we found were from fall and winter collections, with an emphasis on sweaters ($60) and lightweight jackets, marked $90-$150. Expect to find chunky oversized knits for $60 and tuxedo-style blazers for $90. We did find a few warmer weather tops, including silky printed tees and tie-neck blouses, both $60.
Shorts, pants, and skirts make up a smaller portion of the inventory, with a limited number of styles available in each size bracket. We did spot some great picks, though, such as neon wide-leg trousers for $60, pleated leather-and-chiffon skirts for $150, and shorts with studded seams for $40.
Outerwear is one of the better deals at this sale, with prices ranging from $90- $250. We found leather moto jackets for $150, classic trench coats for $250, and lightweight printed-cotton jackets for $90.
We highly recommend checking out the racks of samples: all of them are just $50. We found some amazing eveningwear in this section, including a beaded cocktail dress and edgy graphic miniskirts.
If you're not willing to shell out $250 for a coat, there are also some great outerwear samples available here, including drapey suede jackets and fur-trimmed puffy coats. We did notice some damages on the samples, but they were minimal; most just looked like they needed a good dry cleaning.
Finally, accessories are comprised of handbags ($50-$175), clutches ($75), tech accessories ($15-$50), and scarves ($40), but the selection was fairly limited. Look for leather chain-strap purses and patterned totes, marked $175, printed iPad cases for $50, and beaded hard-shell clutches for $75.
There is a fitting room in the back of the sale space, and you can bring in up to ten items at a time. All of the stock will be replenished throughout the sale, which runs through Sunday. No word yet on further markdowns, but we expect there will be some—stay posted for updates. —Gillian Fuller
