A mindboggling number of events took place over the weekend—Fashion Week, Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year, the Olympics—but who cares when Sunday was the grand opening of the Opening Ceremony in the uber-hip Ace Hotel? An oasis amidst the wholesale stores on the block, the boutique is like a fashionable traveler's dream hotel gift shop and boutique all in one.
This outpost feels more open and warmer than the Soho original, with lots of natural light, high ceilings and bright colors throughout the store. Along with overlapping stock from the flagship (Opening Ceremony label, Alexander Wang, etc) there's also a trove of clever, travel-focused items that are exclusive to the Ace location.
The limited-edition Tumi for Opening Ceremony line offers bright, color-blocked carry-on kits, satchels and laptop cases. The Opening-Ceremony–branded toothbrushes in punchy colors and the matching toiletry kits ($20) are whimsically fun and totally practical—perfect for the forgetful hipster tourist (or if you have that last minute overnight guest). And we wanted to buy the bright leather luggage tags in every color for $25 each.
Also thoughtfully in supply are Haribo gummy bears and snacks, an eclectic mix of DVDs (from Hoop Dreams to Jean Renoir), art magazines and of course the Pegleg NYC PJ sets. A foil nail art manicurist will be on site once a week offering $55 manicures, too. The boutique hits the needs of all audiences—locals in need of a fashion fix and trendy travelers looking for innovative and cutting edge New York shopping.
